Protected areas safeguard biodiversity
Healthy ecosystems stabilize the climate, secure clean water, and support the livelihoods of people around the world. But they are increasingly under pressure from habitat loss, unsustainable resource use, and climate change.
Protected areas give nature the space to thrive and recover. They are essential for conserving biodiversity, today and for generations to come.

How We Work
Together, we protect wilderness
Conservation succeeds through committed people, shared expertise, and long-term partnerships. Every day, the Frankfurt Zoological Society’s teams work alongside partners to protect wilderness and conserve biodiversity for the future.
Together with ranger teams and protected area authorities, we monitor wildlife, maintain vehicles and field stations, and support the day-to-day management of national parks. Working with local communities, we help develop land-use plans and sustainable livelihood opportunities that protect valuable habitats for the long term.

Protecting wilderness takes time.
Meaningful conservation is built over decades. We have worked alongside our partners in Germany and Tanzania for more than 70 years, in Peru for over 30 years, and in Indonesia for more than 20 years. The Frankfurt Zoological Society’s history dates back to 1858.
